Temp mail checker

Paste an email address to see if it comes from a temp mail service, a site that hands out a throwaway inbox for a few minutes. We look the domain up in our list and check where its mail goes.

We don't store the email or IP you type, or any history of your checks. But we keep the email's domain in our DNS cache for up to an hour, and a hash of your own IP address for up to 24 hours for rate limits. We also count how many checks end in allow, challenge or block each day. Details.

This page runs the email and IP checks of every plan. It cannot run the repeat-inbox and signup-burst checks, because they need your app's own signup history. Residential-proxy detection is not switched on yet.

What the result means

Each check answers allow, challenge or block. It also gives a score out of 100 and the reasons for it.

  • Block with disposable_domain: the domain is on our list of temp mail and other throwaway domains.
  • Block with burner_mx: the domain isn't on our list yet, and its mail goes to a mail server that temp mail services use.
  • Block with no_mx: the domain can't receive email at all.
  • Challenge with stale_list_domain: only an old list carries the domain.
  • Allow: we found no sign of temp mail.

Where the temp mail domains come from

We collect domains from open lists and from the temp mail sites themselves, which show their domains to every visitor. We rebuild the list every hour. You can browse the disposable email domains we've seen.

What a domain list misses

Temp mail services keep adding domains. A list holds only the domains someone has already found. The mail server check catches a new domain when its mail goes to a server we already know.

People also sign up twice with a real address. Gmail ignores dots and +tags, so j.smith+2@gmail.com and jsmith@gmail.com reach the same inbox. In your app, we count those spellings as the same inbox, and add points each time that inbox signs up again within 7 days.

The disposable email checker page explains each check and the free API's limits.

Check every signup for temp mail

Call the check from your signup handler before you create the user, or paste your hook URL into Supabase. On the Free plan you get 1,000 checks a month, with no card. New apps start in shadow mode, so you see what we'd refuse before we refuse anything.
